 Designated October 17 1986 during of the session held to Lausanne thanks to the action of the Presidents of its committee of organization Michel Barnier and Jean-Claude Killy, Albertville organized the games.
It was the third time that the France organized the winter games of Chamonix in 1924, Grenoble in 1968 and it also was the centenary of the call of Coubertin for the restoration of the Olympics.
