THE Xth OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES

It was on 28 January 1964, shortly before 5 p.m., that the IOC spokesman announced the designation of Grenoble as the host city for the 1968 X Olympic Winter Games. The capital of the department of Isère won after three rounds of voting on the Canadian candidacy of Calgary. An explosion of joy shook the French delegation. Since 1924, when it organized the first Winter Games, France had not hosted Olympic competitions.
