Rome having withdrawn, the I.O.C. entrusted the organisation of the Games of the IV Olympiad to London, which included them in the framework of the Franco-British Exhibition from 20 April to 30 October 1908. The sporting events took place in the athletics stadium in the western district of the capital at a place called "Sheperd's Bush", with for the first time the opening parade ceremony of the Games.
